A classic “Chicago-style” hot dog is an all-beef frank served in a poppy seed bun with this septet of toppin’s:

  • yellow mustard
  • relish (neon green preferred)
  • chopped onions
  • a coupla tomato wedges
  • a pickle spear
  • sport peppers
  • & a dash of what?

Is a hot dog a sandwich?

I dunno! I mean, what even IS a sandwich, y’know? It strikes me as one of those “know-it-when-ya-see-it” type things, like “what is a game?” or “what is art?” or “what is fascism?” or “what is soup?” It’s the sorta thing that skirts a super clean & tidy definition.

What philosopher discoursed on these sorts of “language-games” & Familienähnlichkeiten (“family resemblances”) in his posthumously published Philosophical Investigations?
